How Heavy Should the Bat Be
Travel baseball bats come in different weights and they’re called Bat Drops (you see them as “-“)
A “Drop 10” (or -10) means a bat is 10 ounces less than the length so a 29 inch -10 would be 19 ounces.

Youth Baseball Bat Sizing Tips
Here are some helpful tips that I’ve learned over the years.
If In Doubt, Go Lighter and Shorter Bat
If your child is on the borderline and you’re not sure what bat size is correct, always go with the shorter and lighter bat.
This is especially true for younger kids (5 – 10 years old).
Here are the reasons why:
1 ) Greater Success
Shorter and lighter bats will give your child more control and greater chance of contact and success.
This will make baseball more fun and they’ll want to continue to play.
I’ve seen many kids struggle not because they weren’t talented but because their parents had them using a bat that they could not handle.
2 ) Better Swing Mechanics
One of the easiest way for a young baseball player to develop bad swing mechanics is by using a bat that is too heavy.
Instead of a nice short compact swing the kid will drop the bat and develop a bad swing that decreases the chance of success.
Many young kids may not understand what a “good swing” is but they can easily create muscle memory that become much harder to fix later on if they start off with a heavy bat.
Buying a Use Baseball Bat
Bats can be very expensive now and some are $500!
If you’re on a tight budget, we recommend buying a lightly used bat from a trusted seller on eBay and you can save at least 50%.
