Travel Baseball Birthday Cutoff
The travel baseball birthday cutoff is April 30 and his age on that day is what determines your child’s age group.
Here is an example to a commonly asked question.
What Age is 9U Baseball?
If your child is 9 years old on April 30, then he is 9U.
If your child turns 10 years old on May 1, then he is still 9U (because he was 9 on April 30)
It’s as simple as that.
A Situation that Confuses Parents Sometimes
In many states the new travel baseball season officially doesn’t move up to the next age until Aug. 1, so that means your child can still play his previous age if his birthday was before May 1.
An example:
Your child is 9 years old on April 30 (he is 9U) and turns 10 on May 1.
On June 15, even though he is 10, he can still play 9U tournaments because he was 9 on April 30.
Differences Between Little League and USA Baseball
Parents often get confused because the travel baseball age rules are different from Little League and USA Baseball events
For Little League and USA Baseball, the cutoff is the Aug. 31 going into the next school year and not April 30.
Example
If your child just turned 10 years old on June 10, he will be 10U (because he will be 10 on April 30) but he will be 11U for Little League and USA baseball events because he will be 11 by the following Aug 31
