Cooperstown Baseball Tournament: A Parent’s Complete Guide
The Cooperstown baseball tournament is an amazing experience for kids that play travel baseball and I’ve gone twice. (Aug. 2023 with my oldest son and recently in Aug. 2026 with my second child)
There are actually two different Cooperstown baseball tournaments that go on at the same time and we created this guide to help you.

What Makes the Cooperstown Baseball Tournaments Special
There are few things that make the Cooperstown tournament worth it.
1 ) Kids Stay in Bunks
The number one thing that makes it special is that the kids stay and sleep with their team in bunks and are supervised by the coaches.
They don’t stay with their parents.
All the meals and lodging are provided by the tournament facilities.
Kids love it because it’s like “living in a college dorm” for a week and they have tons of fun hanging out with their friends.
They also get to walk around the huge facilities and make new friends.
2 ) Tons of Home Runs
Everyone loves homers and there are ton of them at Cooperstown tournaments.
The field dimensions are small and the biggest fields are just 200 feet.
There are some smaller fields that are only 180 feet!
3 ) Play Against Teams from Across the Country
Teams from all over the country fly in so kids get to meet friends from different states.
4 ) Pin Trading
Every team makes their own team pin and kids love to trade pins and try to collect the rare and cooler ones.
5 ) Beautiful Setting
The tournaments are in the Catskills Mountain area and the scenery is beautiful during the summer.
2 Different Cooperstown Tournaments
There are actually 2 different Cooperstown baseball tournaments and there are 10 key differences between Cooperstown All Star Village vs Dreams Park
They’re 23 miles apart but both are located in the Cooperstown area.
Where is Cooperstown Baseball
1 ) Cooperstown Dreams Park
Cooperstown Dreams Park is the older and more traditional tournament that is closer to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown (about 10 minute drive)

2 ) Cooperstown All Star Village
Cooperstown All Star Village is the newer tournament and is located in Oneonta, New York which is about 25 miles from the Hall of Fame

When Are the Cooperstown Youth Tournaments
Both tournaments are 6 days but it runs every week so there is a “new tournament with a different winner” that starts every week and this goes on from June to September every year.
For example, there were 94 teams that played from Aug. 4 – Aug 10 and once that tournament ended, there were a new batch of 84 teams that played the following week from Aug. 10 – 16th.
How Many Teams Are In a Cooperstown Tournament?
It varies anywhere from 50 teams to 100 teams depending on the week
How Do Teams Qualify or Get Invited
Any team can participate and you can choose which date you want to go but the tournaments sell out fast.
Your team has to register and make the down payment at least 12 months to get the dates you want.
What Age Group Plays in the Cooperstown Baseball Tournament?
Both tournaments are for 12U travel baseball age but there are some advanced 11U kids that participate as well.
How Much Does It Cost
The costs to register is about $4,000 and this just includes the tournament entrance fee, food and lodging for the kids.
You also have to factor in the fee for the coaches and also travel and food/lodging for the parent.
If you are going with a family of four, it can easily cost over $10,000 – $15,000 for flights, rental car, lodging, food, etc.
Competition Level at the Cooperstown Tournaments
Majority (80%) of the teams are average at best and not AAA nor Major level. They’re just a little bit above rec. league travel baseball. Starting pitchers throw anywhere from low 50 mph to mid 60 mph.
However, there are always 5 – 10 teams each week that are very elite and Major level (pitchers throwing 70 mph or above) and it is difficult to win the tournament.
Advice for Parents
I’ve been to Cooperstown All Star Village twice and loved it.
I went in 2023 and in 2026 but surprisingly enjoyed it more the second time because I didn’t take the baseball as seriously.
The reason why the second time was better was because I learned to just enjoy watching my son have fun instead of worrying about how he did or whether the team won or lost.
I was too serious about the baseball competition the first time (even though I still had a good time)
Just go and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and have fun!
Is It Worth It?
It’s a once in a lifetime experience and is totally worth it.
We highly recommend it!
The baseball competition may not be the best but what makes it memorable are sleeping in the bunks, staying with friends, pin trading and an entire week of baseball fun.
